There are a few all-American staples of summertime: trips to the beach, backyard barbeques, fireworks and of course, baseball.  It is America’s greatest pastime, but do we ever really take the time to appreciate what we are watching?  These guys have dedicated their lives to this sport.  They have spent countless hours taking grounders, catching fly balls, hitting and perfecting pitches.  Only the best of the best actually make it into the major leagues.

There is a term used in the sports world to identify players who are performing particularly well at any given time.  They are said to be playing “In the Zone.”  They have it going on.  They are producing and leading the way in how they are fielding their position.  It takes a good athlete to play “In the Zone” for a period of time, but only the greats find a way to stay there through their entire career.

The players who do, make it in to the hall of fame.  Players like Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mantle, Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt and Richie Ashburn.  In fact, only 242 professional baseball players have ever made it into this elite group.  There is a reason for that.  It takes raw natural ability, but it doesn’t stop there. It takes fanatic discipline, focus and dedication.

Join us at ValleyPoint Church this summer as we look at what it takes to live “In the Zone”, and stay there.  We will learn from some individuals in Scripture who made it in to the spiritual hall of fame.
