Check This Out

Weekend Update – June 24th

“In the Zone”…this has been a really fun series to be a part of.  There is something about baseball and summertime that go so well together!  They just fit together in sort of this perfect duet.  Baseball is a unique sport because you can watch a baseball game and have long stretches of the game that are relatively slow moving and laid back; this is one of the great things about the sport.  Not much seems to be happening, but then out of nowhere someone can make a spectacular play that sends an adrenaline rush through the entire crowd forcing them out of their seats in a roaring applause.  If you have ever been in a stadium when this happens…it’s amazing!  It could be a diving catch, a double play, a strike out to end the inning, a home run that instantly puts you back in the game, or best of all, a game winning play!

Game winning plays are what sports fans live for.  They are why we watch.  Game winning plays are the kind of plays that can identify players who are playing “In the Zone.”  This is a term that is used to identify players who are performing particularly well at any given time.  They have it going on.  They are producing at a high level and leading the way in how they are fielding their position.  It takes a good athlete to play “In the Zone” for a period of time, but only the greats find a way to stay there through their entire career.  The players who do, make it in to the hall of fame.  In fact, only 242 professional baseball players have ever made it into this elite group.  There is a reason for that.

Last week Gus talked about how in order to stay in the zone, you have to practice.  The players who make it…practice…a lot…all the time…every day.  They have to be self-motivated.  They have to be willing to put in the hard work necessary to be successful.  He talked about how the same is true in our spiritual lives if we are going to live a life that is “In the Zone.”  We have to regularly practice our spiritual disciplines like praying, reading God’s Word, coming to church regularly, being generous and serving others.

This Sunday we are going to take a look at something else that has to happen in order for us to live a life that is “In the Zone.”  We can’t wait to have you join us as we continue week 2 of “In the Zone.”  Enjoy your Saturday and we will see you Sunday at 9:15 or 11am at Garnet Valley Middle School.
