Prayer, Love Day & Advent Week #3

Please be in prayer for all those impacted by the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.  There are no words…as a faith community let’s be sure to lift up this community and ask God to comfort.  Hold your loved ones close.

On Sunday, December 16th, we’ll celebrate the third Sunday of Advent.  I hope that you have been enjoying this focus on the arrival of the baby Jesus.  He truly was an amazing gift and worthy of our best celebrations.  We’ll light the third Advent candle on Sunday.  It’s called the candle of joy. The third candle indicates that the only lasting joy to be found in life on earth is through Christ. All other joy is fleeting.  We’ll then spend some time in Matthew chapter two and look at an individual in the Advent story who had no joy.  That lack of joy eventually destroyed him.  I’m excited about sharing with you.  Invite a friend to join you as we continue walking through “O Little Town.”  To make your Advent experience even more meaningful, take time to sign-up for a Bible reading plan.  Here you will find a few different plans that will help you focus on the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Two other quick reminders!

Don’t forget that Love Day is tomorrow – Saturday, December 15th.  I love these days as it gives us the chance to go, serve, and love!  Keep the holiday season in perspective through this great chance to serve others.  You can read all about the different opportunities here.  It begins at 8:30am at our Bethel Road Campus.  Just arrive, sign-up for one of the impact opportunities, and then have a blast serving others!  Love Day wraps-up at approximately 12:00pm.

The Christmas Offering Initiative for 2012 is underway!  We have a vision this year of generously meeting the needs of poverty (through CityTeam in Chester, PA), orphans (through funding a feeding center for orphans in Smolensk, Russia), and families in crisis (through serving two families in our community).  I believe, God is going to use our generosity to impact our community and the world!  Begin planning and praying now about what God wants you to share.  Our goal is $30,000.  You can give online or at ValleyPoint Church through Sunday, January 6th.  You will need to designate your giving as the “Christmas Offering.”  You can do that online or in the memo section of your check.

I can’t wait to see you on Sunday!
