“Not Your Average Joe” begins! And…Happy Birthday ValleyPoint!

We begin a brand new series this Sunday that I believe is something we all need to experience. Ever been treated unfairly? Ever wondered if God was going to do something good for you? Ever walked through a hardship? This series is for you. Over the next several weeks, we will investigate the life of one of the most intriguing persons in all of Scripture…the life of Joseph.  Our time exploring his life will reveal that he was not your average Joe. With everything stacked against him, it would have been easy for him to become angry, bitter, and vengeful. Instead, he chose to live a God directed life even when it didn’t make sense. That strategy allowed him to rise above every hardship (and he had many). Just like Joe, you can live an above average kind of life. It won’t be easy, but it can be done.

In addition to our new series, we will also be celebrating ValleyPoint’s 43rd birthday this Sunday! God has been good to our faith community, and we’ll take some time to celebrate! I also have some good news to share from Friend Day 2014!

Just For You…

+ Students (6th-12th grade): The student ministry of ValleyPoint will host a carnival at the Bethel Road Campus this Sunday, October 12th. This free event filled with carnival games, food, and prizes that will start at 4:30pm.

+ Child Dedication: The next child dedication at ValleyPoint will be Sunday, October 26th. Classes for parents are offered on Sunday, October 12th or 19th at 10:15am at the middle school. This class sets the course for how the church can partner with you in your child’s spiritual development. The class is required for participation. Questions can be directed to Dan McInnes at dan@valleypointchurch.com.

+ Discover ValleyPoint:  You’re invited to “discover ValleyPoint” this Sunday at 10:30am (between our two gatherings). This class is a brief introduction to who we are as a church, and a great opportunity to discover ways for you to connect. A member of our First Impressions team will be able to direct you to the meeting location on Sunday.

+ Save the Date for Love Day – Our next Love Day will be Saturday, October 18th. We have a great line-up of events that will provide opportunities for us all to go, serve, and love!  Love Days are our church-wide (all ages) initiatives where we simply serve our surrounding communities.

  • 8:30am – meet at the Bethel Road Campus
  • 8:30-8:50 – sign-ups and refreshments
  • 8:50 – prayer
  • 9:00-11(ish) – teams leave to GO. SERVE. LOVE.

+ Special Guest Speaker – Bethany CookOn Sunday, October 19th, we will welcome back to ValleyPoint Bethany Cook as our guest speaker. Bethany and her husband Steve, live in suburban Chicago, where Bethany works at Awana International, a Christian organization dedicated to helping kids and students come to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ. She attended Moody Bible Institute where she studied Bible and Communications, and Liberty Theological Seminary where she received a Masters in Leadership. One of Bethany’s greatest joys is to dig deep into Scripture to discover the details that take a familiar story from black and white to high definition. She will continue our current series, “Not Your Average Joe” with a focus on Genesis 37 and Joseph’s dysfunctional family.

Invite someone to join you this week. See you on Sunday!
