At the Mother’s Day Brunch I gave the challenge that we need to take a woman out for a meal or coffee and tell her why she is beautiful. According to Dove research 96% of us don’t feel beautiful. Who is beautiful then? We need to define what beautiful means and remind each other what Romans 5:1 and 2 says, “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.”
Life is tough. The mirror can be harsh, and trying to live up to the perfection we perceive in others can leave us feeling less than beautiful and exhausted. Yet God sees us as RIGHT because of our faith in Christ alone, and he has given us a place of highest privilege (think princess). This should give us true and lasting confidence. All the struggles of life (that we don’t like) bring out our true beauty. When you think of a beautiful woman, who comes to mind? My guess is it’s someone who has a light shining in them even through all the troubles in their life. This quote from Elisabeth Kubler-Ross may sum up real beauty. “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
Since the definition of beauty is a mystery, let’s redefine beauty this summer. Tell at least one woman why they are beautiful to you and give them two bookmarks – one bookmark for them to keep and one to pass on to someone. The bookmarks contain the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross quote. (The bookmarks are at the Just For You table.) Once you’ve accomplished the “Summer Beauty Challenge” respond on the Real Women Facebook page by saying, “I’m changing the statistics.” Or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks for joining the challenge!
